Master of Journalism ( Media Studies )

Duration : 2 Years (4 Semester)

Media Studies is one of the most exciting and rapidly-evolving areas of study in today's media-driven world.

The discipline gives an opportunity to explore and learn the art and craft of journalism and media production as well as to develop and disseminate a critical perspective on media, culture and society.


In this two year course, the first year builds the foundation in which various elements of the media industry and mass communication, theories and models, debate and discourse and the political economy of India are taught in detail.
The second year builds on this foundation and focuses on more practical and hands on training. The course would suit a student who seeks a blend of hands-on and theoretical challenge.


After completion of this course from the University, the students can work as a reporter/editor in both print and electronic media as well as can pursue a career in academics also. In addition to that they can work as program executive, anchor, copy writer in media organizations. There are job openings from government and semi government sector as well; with a media degree in hand students can apply for the position of information and PR officer advertised by Information & Broadcasting Ministry. Many Corporate offices and corporate societies also have similar positions.

 

Master of Journalism (Electronic Media)

Duration: 2 Years (4 Semester)
Master of Journalism in Electronic Media has been designed for those students who wish to take up advanced academic studies in the specialized area of Electronic Journalism. This course will help students to engage and excel in the dynamic field of Electronic Media. It will acquaint them with the various aspects of Electronic Journalism and equip students with the multiple skills needed to pursue a career in this exciting arena.

While the first two semesters will deepen the theoretical understanding of students, the next two semesters will provide intensive practical training to them. During this programme, students will learn creative as well as technical skills related to Electronic Journalism such as Photography, Reporting, Radio and TV production, Documentary Films and New Media.

With the advent of massive change in media technologies and the significant shifts happening in media organizations over the past two decades, Journalism has gradually transformed into a more complex, sophisticated and dynamic discipline. Masters in Electronic Journalism intends to explore these changes and stay updated with the global media scenario. The changing role played by various forms of media in contemporary society is another key area of interest in this course. The major objective of this course is to create skilled journalists for all streams of media who are socially responsible and committed to the issues of ethics and human rights. Students who pursue this course will be equipped with the necessary knowledge, technical skills and overall competence for a successful career as reporters, editors, producers, photographers and many other positions in the challenging Electronic Media industry!
 

Master of Mass Communication (Public Relations and Advertising)

Duration: 2 Years (4 Semesters)
Public Relations and Advertising are important tools of communication. They play a vital role in marketing, corporate communication and in social communication. This Post Graduate programme will provide opportunities for students who wish to specialise in these respective fields .It will develop their communication and creative skills which are imperative for the advertising as well as the public relations industry.

During the programme, training will be imparted in media planning and corporate outlook apart from the creative skills pertaining advertising and PR such as copywriting,visualisation, graphics, audio-video production, writing and speaking skills.

In the first year the students will learn the fundamentals of mass communication, advertising and public relations and in the second year they will understand the creative and planning aspects of advertising and public relations. They will also learn administrative and managerial skills of advertising and PR professionals.

Moreover, this programme also aims at broadening the students' knowledge through critical thinking, analysis and practical training. This will instill confidence among the students and will make them employable for corporate sector and in advertising and public relations.
